Renault Filante Record: futuristic electric car promises to unite innovation and historical heritage (Instagram @renault_france)
The Renault brand unveiled the Filante Record, a “laboratory on wheels” designed to maximize aerodynamic and energy efficiency, featuring innovative technology that could be applied to future models from the brand.
With a design inspired by fighter jets and record-breaking vehicles of the past, such as the Renault 40CV des Records and the Étoile Filante, the car has an extremely lightweight and aerodynamic structure designed to minimize air resistance. It will be showcased at the RetroMobile event in Paris, France, before beginning its tests in 2025.
The Filante Record features an 87 kWh battery, similar to the one in the Scenic E-Tech, but weighs only 600 kg, thanks to a design that eliminates intermediate components and uses a carbon casing. Its construction prioritizes lightweight materials like aluminum, carbon, and steel alloys, with parts produced using 3D printing to ensure precision and reduce waste.
In addition, the model features steer-by-wire and brake-by-wire systems, further reducing weight and improving cockpit ergonomics, where a yoke-shaped steering wheel incorporates a digital screen.
Measuring 5.12 meters in length and with the cockpit positioned at the rear, the Filante Record is designed to slice through the air with minimal resistance. Its development includes advanced computational aerodynamics testing and will soon be validated in a wind tunnel.
Renault seeks to repeat its legacy of record-breaking achievements throughout history, bringing innovation to the automotive industry while paying homage to iconic models from its past.
